Every now and then a WordPress theme comes along that is visually breathtaking. Readers are taken aback by the theme when they first see it, and continue to return so that they can enjoy the visuals, time and time again. One such theme is the Scroll template, a theme that is popular with just about anyone who wants to make a massive visual impact with their blog. The background to the theme is brown in colour. The rest of the page is taken up by a scroll, hence the name. The scroll is highly authentic looking, and harks back to ancient times, when papyrus was used for communication, a bit of a nod to the past. The header is immediately distinctive, having some lovely designer font work in it. This grabs the attention of the reader, and makes the template immensely reader-friendly. The sidebar on the left of the screen has a distinct search area embedded in it. This makes the template very functional, as well as highly attractive. The Scroll theme is one for those who like to have a blog that has a distinctive look. It is in this regard that it does not disappoint. |

Technology continues to impress theme designers when it comes to WordPress. The trend towards creating themes that pick up on the technology aspect and run with it is growing steadily. One such theme that leans heavily on this high tech feel is Orange Techno. This theme has been worked so that it impresses anyone who likes clean, computer linked lines in their themes. This means those people who like to buy gadgets and applications that are futuristic in their looks. This theme has all of this in bags, and basically makes one think of a computer interface, albeit one from the distant future. The sidebar has exciting and well-produced orange links. This gives the whole thing a nice, contemporary feel. It is hard to do colour well when it comes to templates. However, the designers of this particular theme have managed this well, bringing a nice splash of orange to the overall feel of muted, cool colours. The sidebar is very functional, and is located on the right hand side of the screen. It is of course highly widget friendly, like many of the newer themes these days. The whole template is clean, futuristic, and highly attractive. |

There are not many truly unique WordPress themes out there, but Leaving could well be one of the most fantastic to look at. The header has all of the drama you could want from a theme, with an amazing picture that has at its centrepiece two hot air balloons. But that’s not all. To make the header really special, the designers have also included a sun hiding behind a tree. The nature of this ‘sun’ is not exactly clear, because just along from the sun is a planet, the origin of which is possibly alien. This gives the header an otherworldly feel that makes Leaving stand out. The RSS button must surely be one of the most distinctive around; really giving off a futuristic feel, but one that seems almost homely too. This is a two column theme, which means that it has a great amount of space for content, and a functionality, with a totally widget focused sidebar, that is pretty much as useful as you could need. However, it is the striking visuals that make leaving such a treat to use. Bloggers will like its functionality. Readers will be knocked out by the sights. |

One of the coolest WordPress templates around is the Vintage theme. All things retro are catered for in this theme, so it makes it ideal for anyone who is producing a historical blog, or indeed someone who owns a retro clothing store. This is a very attractive theme, and one that most people would enjoy reading. The exciting thing about the theme that you notice straightaway is that it has a very attractive header. The header has a font that it uses which is suggestive of perhaps the fifties and sixties. Alongside the title of the blog sits a Vespa scooter. This brings the whole theme out of the rank and file of mundane themes that are currently doing the rounds. This gets your attention, especially if you love nostalgia. The theme has two columns, and is extremely usable, with a widget compliant sidebar on the right hands side. The RSS button will grab you straight away. It is very distinctive, and certainly sets the visuals of the theme apart from all the other templates out there. The theme is very effective, and is probably best suited to those people who trade in or enjoy nostalgia. It was designed by Dellustrations. |

There are a number of WordPress templates out there right now that aim to show off something special when they load up. They display an eye for beauty and detail. Many of these are developed so that bloggers who use them as a platform can catch the eyes of readers. One such theme is Fractality. Basically, the header has a graphic that can only be described as breathtaking. It is the main feature of the theme, bringing to mind a futuristic, almost science fiction type feel that really gets your attention immediately. So arresting is the header, in fact, that it takes you a good few seconds to realise that the theme also has a lot more to offer. The page links can be found just below the header, and are easily accessed. The two column design serves the crisp feel of the theme well, and the sidebar is also a little unique, being as it is on the left hand side. This works really well, and adds to the bright, futuristic feel of the template. The main content area is white, which gives it a clean look. The designer is called Lorelei. Definitely worth a look. |

When it comes to basic WordPress designs, there can’t be many more basic than Eliba. This design has a simple kind of ‘swab’ effect that dominates the visual aspect of the template. Basically, this means that the template looks like it has been brushed with a paintbrush, with some very colourful paint on it. It is quite a distinctive look. It is effective, because it certainly grabs the reader’s attention. The blue header is like one big splash from a paintbrush. This is where the blog title and the subtitle can be found. The template really comes into its own when you look at the content area. This is in a very striking yellow colour. The writing in this area is in black, with the two colours contrasting in a very effective way. The sidebar for the template can be found on the right hand side of the theme. This is a pretty traditional location for a sidebar, which means that the majority of the readers will find it very easy to get used to the whole thing within minutes. This is of course perfect for widgets, and adds to the functionality of the piece. Avery effective template indeed. |

The iPhone has become one of the most iconic devices that the modern world of communications technology has produced. Either you have one or you don’t. But the fact is that you will definitely have heard of it. Now there is a WordPress theme that has close stylistic links to the iPhone. Basically it is a simple, uncluttered design, perfect for anyone who has a blog that is content-reliant. If you have a lot to say and want it focused on, rather than ignored due to screen clutter, IPhonized is for you. Your page links can be found, handily, in the main header. The sidebar is highly widget-friendly. This keeps the whole thing nice and simple, as well as practical. One thing that leaps out at you as soon as you encounter the theme is the rather distinctive RSS icon in the top right spot. This is sleeker, and more attractive than the standard icon. It is actually a selling point for the theme. The main colour for the theme is grey, with black and grey occurring throughout the pages. The whole thing was designed by Ricardo De Sousa. |

Now and then, after the year’s blogging work has been done, you might feel the need to greet your readers with something a little more topical. A WordPress template that allows you to spread good cheer at a seasonal time of year would be perfect for such a job. One such WordPress Theme is New Year 2009. It is actually very rare to find a seasonal theme that works. This is because it is hard to have a theme that has a purely seasonal feel to it that doesn’t seem over the top or twee. Having a bunch of words on a glittery backdrop is usually the first sign that designers have got it wrong. New Year 2009 works though. It is a simple two column template, and as such has a sidebar, located on the right hand side of the screen. The look of the template is very seasonal, and while this may put a few people off, it somehow still manages to be sophisticated. That aforementioned sidebar offers full widget customisation, and it is this that lifts it above the other similarly themed templates out there. It means business, and any blogger who uses it can still deliver great custom content. |

There are many seasonal and holiday related WordPress templates out there at the moment, and it is very hard to make your mark when the overall content of the theme in question is driven by the general consensus. Having a Christmas theme for example, is not easy. If you are the designer of a Christmas WordPress Theme, you have to do your best to make sure that it is different and exciting enough to garb the attention of those who stumble upon it. This is really not a simple matter. The designers of Vermilion Christmas have put together a really effective WordPress template which, while covering the Christmas feel, does so in a fresh and engaging way. This is a two column template, and it has a sidebar that is totally widget friendly. This means that the template is attractive and seasonal, but it also has exactly the same level of functionality that many other more conventional themes have. So the blogger can add buttons and boxes that make it very easy for his readers to have a totally unique experience when reading the blog. This is a very effective theme, due to its great colours, and total widget compliance. |
