Bloggers who want to write about diet and nutrition are spoilt for choice these days when it comes to finding a template that will suit their needs. Due to the nature of a diet and nutrition blog, the WordPress Theme that is chosen will have to be fresh, exciting to look at, and colourful. If it was sin any way boring the actual mood of the blog would be compromised.

A WordPress template than could quite easily be used for such a purpose is Green Apple. An apple has many images and feelings associated with it. One natural association is that of health. And, as if to meet that association head on an apple takes a major role in this template’s header.

This two column template has a sidebar that is located to the right of the page. This sidebar is widget compliant, which means that you can add all sorts of features to your blog. You might want to add a blog roll for example, which tells your readership what you have been reading recently.

Overall, this is a very fresh and effective WordPress template, one which would be best suited, generally speaking, to a diet and fitness blog.

There are now literally hundreds of blogs out there that have a music or musician theme. They usually have very stylised and highly artistic themes from which to work from. There are only a few themes however, that are truly sophisticated in their subtlety, especially when it comes to music themes. Relief in Music does a very good job of being sleek and sophisticated, and all of this in two colours.

The two colours are orange and white. That’s it basically. However, this is all overshadowed (in a nice way) by a microphone graphic at the top left of the theme in the header area. This is a truly gorgeous graphic that really does a lot to set the tone for the whole theme. What’s more, it is so beautifully drawn that the reader cannot help but be drawn in.

This particular theme has another neat trick. As if its makers have expected it to be used for commercial reasons, there is a custom space in the middle of the header for advertising slots like Ad Sense.

The sidebar is on the right and is fully compliant with widgets. All in all, a refreshing theme, and a very commercial one.

One of the more striking themes out there at the moment for users of WordPress is Drop Shadow. There are many themes available right now that use their primary colours simply to get the reader’s attention. Drop Shadow doe precisely the opposite. Instead of trying to impress with fantastic colour schemes that seem to leap out at you, this one sticks to its name, and keeps it subtle and cloaked.

Drop Shadow essentially works in black and grey. These two dark colours give the theme a little air of mystery, which suggest that the designers wanted to create a real mood for the users form the word go. The theme creates a real shadowy mood.

The sidebar is helpfully located on the right hand side. With the two column themes this is the most popular part of the template to place this sidebar in, and is easily the most accessible. This means that the user can stuff the sidebar with widgets and keep the content area clean and simple. The black and grey are accentuated in the sidebar through fonts and general colouring. The theme is enhanced by an unfussy content area. A great theme, with a mysterious, shadowy feel.

There has been a big move in recent times to using clean and unfussy templates in blogging. Some major bloggers out there have stripped back their operations, removing advertising and focusing on making the reading experience as clutter free as possible for the people who surf the net.

This helps readability, and prevents the content of the blog form being swamped by too many colours and advertising units. One such WordPress Theme that does this is Bella. This is a very clean theme, and one which works very hard to not overwhelm the viewer with too much in the way of visuals.

It is a two column WordPress template, but this is not immediately apparent due to the fact that the theme is so subtle, that edges are hard to find. The sidebar is located on the right hand side of the template. If yow is to have widgets enabled on this theme, you must make sure to enable them on the admin page of your WordPress blog settings.

The one true element of colour in this theme comes on the far left, where there is a colourful border. This is why the theme may not be for everyone.

Sometimes bloggers appreciate simplicity. There are so many blogs out there at the moment that seem to thrive on bombarding the readers with ads and text that is very visual, but actually way too complicated. Bloggers occasionally want a theme that sticks to letting the content do the work, rather than the flashy graphics.

Plainscape is one theme that can accommodate this particular desire. It is about as simple and clear as you would want a theme to be. The predominant feel is white. The colour is everywhere, giving the theme a nice, arctic feel that refreshes the screen.

The header sets the tone by being a very simple and not too over-the-top blue. This melds in nicely with the white that the rest of the theme is dominated by. The theme is two columns, with a large and appealing content area, and a clearly defined and attractive sidebar, that allows for as much widget compatibility as you could possibly want. The fonts are attractive (more of that appealing blue colour) and a little larger than one is used to. Amazingly, this only adds to the appeal.

One for the kind of blogger that just wants a simple, content rich site.

Technology continues to impress theme designers when it comes to WordPress. The trend towards creating themes that pick up on the technology aspect and run with it is growing steadily. One such theme that leans heavily on this high tech feel is Orange Techno.

This theme has been worked so that it impresses anyone who likes clean, computer linked lines in their themes. This means those people who like to buy gadgets and applications that are futuristic in their looks. This theme has all of this in bags, and basically makes one think of a computer interface, albeit one from the distant future.

The sidebar has exciting and well-produced orange links. This gives the whole thing a nice, contemporary feel. It is hard to do colour well when it comes to templates. However, the designers of this particular theme have managed this well, bringing a nice splash of orange to the overall feel of muted, cool colours.

The sidebar is very functional, and is located on the right hand side of the screen. It is of course highly widget friendly, like many of the newer themes these days. The whole template is clean, futuristic, and highly attractive.

The current trend is for themes that bring in the idea of Nature and the Great Outdoors. Fauna is a theme that conveys that idea very well. This theme is dominated by a very arresting header bar, which kind of belies the theme of Fauna, at first at least.

The fact is that the header, while very colourful, has a little secret up its sleeve. You can actually configure the header so that it changes colour. The screenshot most often available of this theme shows the header in a bright, fluorescent green. However, you can change this so that you can have a red or a blue header if you like.

The sidebar is on the right hand side on the two column set up. This sidebar is completely widget enabled, so you can start including dynamic content as soon as you download the theme. The content area itself is quite low key, and offers a simple and elegant interface in which you can blog your content without any worries about it being hard to read or see.

The whole feel of the template is very clean and calm. The ideas of Nature really come alive with this one.

The WordPress Original template is about as basic and functional as one would want from a theme. This theme is not for everyone, due to its simplicity, however, it does hold some neat tricks that make it stand out from the crowd when it comes to functionality. And even to this day, it is more dynamic than some of the other themes that are out there.

The header stands out as soon as you take a look at the template. It is a large header, with a very distinctive and reserved colour scheme of dark grey and light blue. This sets the tone for the rest of the theme.

The header also holds the traditional and familiar navigation bar for your blog. All that you need as a blog owner is on this bar, making navigation from one part of your blog to another extremely easy. This unfussy feel dominates the theme.

The content area and the sidebar continue this unfussy vibe, with muted colours and a definite emphasis on function over style. This two column feel has now been adopted as standard by many themes, and this is where it all started. A good theme for beginners.
